Upgraded webmail is here!

As you may know, Pobox was acquired by FastMail last November. Since then, we've been working hard to add their best-in-class services to Mailstore. FastMail webmail is a massive leap forward in terms of speed, device accessibility, and features. Today, we're pleased to announce access to FastMail webmail, calendars and contacts for all Mailstore accounts!

You can log in using your normal Pobox credentials at www.fastmail.com. If you use two-factor authentication, please click "More" to enter your 2FA credentials at the same time.

What's different about FastMail

FastMail supports both Archive and Delete.

Archive moves mail in the current folder into the Archive folder. Archived messages are kept for search or viewing in conversations.

Delete moves mail to the trash, and should be for mail destined for permanent removal. Deleted messages will not appear in searches or conversations.

All your Pobox addresses have been set up as sending identities. You can edit or remove unwanted ones from the "Send Mail As" in your Mail Accounts settings.

What's new with FastMail

FastMail was designed from the ground up for speed, so you should notice improved performance across the board

FastMail has a full suite of access options -- webmail that's optimized for a range of device sizes, plus native apps for both iOS and Android

It has speedy full text cross-folder search, and keyboard shortcuts for power users.

The calendars and contacts include invitations, improved support for use on other devices, and drag-and-drop editing.

App support (both FastMail's webmail apps, and within your own calendar and contact apps) is available today for users with standard passwords. App support for 2FA users is coming soon.

Delete for conversations can act on all folders. To match Pobox's behavior, it is currently set to act on the current folder only. Please be aware, if you switch to the "all folders" option, Sent and Mailstore Archive folders are included in "all".

When should you make the switch?

You can switch to using FastMail's webmail today -- there is no reason to continue using Roundcube (the webmail currently at webmail.pobox.com.)

Please note: Both FastMail and Pobox Webmail access the same mail storage, so changes (deleting messages, replying, marking a message read) appear in both interfaces. For calendars and contacts, however, they are copies. Updates made to your calendars and contacts on FastMail will not be updated on Pobox, or vice versa. If you are a calendar/contact user, we recommend switching to FastMail at once, to reduce the likelihood of edits made on both platforms. However, if you notice any missing calendar or contact data in FastMail when you first log in, don't make any changes there -- tell us, so we can copy your information over to FM again first.

Roundcube will continue to be available for the next 30 days; after that, we will point webmail.pobox.com to FastMail. If you spot any issues or problems with the migration to FastMail, please let us know right away!

  1. Hurray! Unfortunately app is at the moment unusable because 2FA support is missing. Hope to see it coming soon.

  2. Default FM's SMTP server is used. To keep 'Trusted Senders' and 'Mail Stats' define smtp.pobox.com under Accounts.

    1. For the moment, that is correct, but we're working on getting Trusted Senders and stats working seamlessly in the next few weeks!

  3. HELP! All email I have sorted into folders no longer appears in the FastMail interface. 5 years of archived mail sorted by project does not display.

    1. Note that it is still archived correctly in Webmail, it has just all disappeared in FastMail (although al lthe folders are there, just the emails are not in them).

    2. This sounds like you may just need an index rebuilt on your account. Contact us at pobox@pobox.com to tell us your email address, and we'll get it fixed ASAP!

  4. I am missing huge amounts of mail in the my folders in FastMail. 28,000+ messages in one folder.
Tell you what. Do not close down WebMail until you are 100 % certain that the changeover is absolutely complete and correct.
Can't you use a script top verify the folders?
You should wait at least a year with both running.

    1. John, this was a display problem, and it should be fixed for you and quite a few other affected users. To get such speedy performance, FM relies on a message index that is built when the message is received, instead of building it when you access a folder (as Roundcube does.) Affected accounts hadn't had old messages backfilled into the index, so only mail received after their account had been migrated was being displayed. Once we had a few reports, it was easy to identify the affected accounts and fix them all, so thank you for reporting it!

  5. I have two BIG concerns about switching to FastMail:
    1) Does the FastMail service continue having the same "clean no-ad mail service" policy as in RoundCube mail?
    2) For my eye-movement, I don't feel confortable to put the previre pane at the left of the mail list view pane; Rather I want to put the preview pane at the right of the list pane. How can I do?

Thanks for your answer in advance.

    1. 1) FM definitely has that same policy! Their ad-free policy was one of the reasons we thought our two services were a great fit.
      2) You can find their display preferences at https://www.fastmail.com/settings/preferences.

  6. When I try to sort my mail in Fastmail, such as by sender, all folders cease to show mail at all. No amount of refreshing, changing folders between Inbox and others, opening up other things in the Fastmail interface, etc. seem to fix this. I have to log out and back in to see my mail again. Is sorting just broken completely in Fastmail web mail?

    1. Sorting is definitely not broken in FastMail (I just confirmed it on several test accounts), and it should be much faster than sorting in Roundcube. Please email us at pobox@pobox.com -- it sounds like an account-specific problem that we need to get ironed out!

  7. If y ou are going to remove the webmail access on 23/24 April, that's fine with me. BUT what about the SPAM page on pobox.com?
At present, the only way I can see what you consider to be spam is through:
    https://www.pobox.com/spam/list/all?cur_page=1&per_page=10&search_input=&spam_length=100&then_goto=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pobox.com%2Fspam%2Flist%2Fall

    The Fastmail webpage;
    https://www.fastmail.com/mail/Inbox/?u=1d304144

fails to see any of it.

Hope there are to be changes afoot.

    Thanks - David

    1. David, much like RoundCube, FastMail is an interface for reading and responding to delivered mail. The Spam listing, along with the rest of the Pobox configuration interface, does not have any changes planned at this time.

  8. I would like to see my email the way I have been dealing with email for the past 10 or 15 years. Controls along the left edge, emails one line for each in the top third of the panel, and the selected email filling the rest. Like mozilla and seamonkey have done since the beginning of recorded time. And pobox webmail. And my work webmail. Is this available? Not a big deal, usually I use seamonkey/imap most of the time, but still frustrating that things go backwards. Like phones. Want a slide-out keypad? Hahahah!

  9. I am still go back and forth between FastMail and RoundCube; One of the most inconvenient so far is that when I enter the destination address, old RoundCube does show the candidate addresses, and does the auto-completion. I have to go back to the address book to find my friend's address every time. Do you have any solution?

    1. FM should also be auto-completing your addresses from your address book. If it's not, please get in touch with us at pobox@pobox.com, so we can make sure your address book was correctly migrated!
